Malaysia Haul and the Switch to Bloglovin'

When I was in Malaysia over the holidays, shopping was a frequent activity, if not only to shield away from the deeply humid weather outside. And when you're in a country where mentally converting prices to Australian dollars involve dividing the price tag by three, you've got to seize the day! Carpe diem I say! ;) (And yet I'm supposed to be saving up for my European holiday...)

Well, what's been done can't be undone (and I can't say I regret much). Along with clothes (is it just me that is perpetually out of university wear?) I managed to procure a couple of skincare and makeup products too. I indulged on several occasions at Watson's (a pharmacy similar to Priceline here in Australia) where there are aisles of liquids, creams and powders in every direction (and don't get me started on the walls of face sheet masks...)

Face masks galore...

Face sheet masks are all of the rage in Asia so I took advantage of the massive variety available and bought a few to try out. Unfortunately, many brands don't have any English text on the packaging so I erred on the side of caution and bought ones that did. The 10 pack of My Beauty Diary Black Pearl facial masks cost me slightly over $10.00 AUD and upon the recommendation of one of my Malaysian friends, I grab hold of a few Naruko branded ones too (I've used two of these so far and they're great)! On one occasion at the mall, the sales assistant at the epitome-of-cute Etude House stall told me they were currently having an offer where if you bought three products or more, you could get all your purchases for half price. So with that, I couldn't go past picking up an Etude House Honey Wash-Off Pack - four individual tubs of a honey-like face mask. Adorable!

I was very restrained with my purchases from Sasa, a popular cosmetics and skincare chain located all over Asia. My picks were a konjac sponge and a Caudalie lip balm and hand cream set on sale for only $6.00 AUD. Other skincare essentials I acquired from Watson's were a Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF 50+ Sunscreen (love it so much I had to buy a back up), a Himalaya Herbals Neem Face Pack (can you tell I'm really into face masks at the moment?), the hyped-up Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion and Nexcare 3M Acne Patches, a quirky purchase I haven't had to use yet thanks to my well-loved La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo.

In Malaysia, there are so many different brands of makeup at the drugstore. I've heard many good things about the Asian brand Za, so I purchased the Za Total Hydration BB Cream (Tina has a particularly convincing review here) and their Perfect Fit Concealer in Shade 02. When I came across the L'Oreal Paris Shine Caresse Lip Stains, it was before their release in Australia, so I decided to bring two home with me in the shades Lolita and Bella for rather cheap. I've also had my eye on MAC's Mineralise Blush in Warm Soul for the longest time, so I'm glad I can cross this one off the list - it's gorgeous! Oh, and I can't forget the other two Etude House products I picked up on offer - an ultra dark red Dear Darling Tint and their popular Proof 10 Eye Primer.

Such a lengthy post, but I hope some of y'all enjoyed seeing some of the products I bought my on travels. :) Also, in case you haven't heard the news yet, it's rumoured that Google Friend Connect will become obsolete in the coming months with the retirement of Google Reader. I'm sad to see it go because that's how I normally catch up on blogs, but recently I've switched over to Bloglovin' which handily enough has an import function! If you'd like to keep up to date with my posts, I reckon Bloglovin' is the way to go!

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo Review - A Skin Saviour

Month long absences are unfortunately not an irregular occurrence here on Grace and Glitter but in this instance I have spent the majority of that time on an amazing trip in Malaysia, the birthplace of my parents. Malaysia is one of my favourite places in the world (although you could hardly call me well travelled) for a couple of reasons. I love visiting my relatives on a daily occurrence, the sights and surroundings are incredible and so different from that in Australia, and the food is amazing (my current waistline does not forgive me). One thing I definitely don't miss about Malaysia though is the tropical climate. During the day the weather is hot and humid, leading to an acute amount of sweating and stickiness (ick)! Predictably, it has done no favours for my skin.

In my most previous post before my vacation, I mentioned that I had bought and have been trying out La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo, a skincare gem that I first heard about from Tanya Burr. I'm new to the world of French skincare, so when this popular product came to my attention, I was instantly curious. With its vague name, I wasn't sure what it was exactly or its purpose initially, but I've come to discover that it is a gel-like lotion that can be used as either a spot/blemish treatment or all over facial treatment/moisturiser. Effaclar Duo is specifically produced for those with 'oily skin with imperfections' (a rather apt description of my skin type) but there are other products in the Effaclar range such as Effaclar K made for different purposes and skin types.

Having used La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo daily for over a month, I am happily impressed with the results. I apply it as an all over face moisturiser nightly after cleansing and toning and sometimes during the day underneath my makeup. The biggest and most exciting difference it has made to my skin which happened almost instantaneously is that my skin's texture has improved ten-fold. My skin feels much more smooth and refined and it has reduced the number of small bumps (mostly in my T-zone) dramatically. Although I feel like other spot-treatments subside blemishes and reduce redness faster, I've found that Effaclar Duo decreases the frequency of blemishes. It has made such a massive difference to my skin that even my mum and boyfriend have commented on how well my skin has been appearing recently, and there is nothing more affirming than observations from loved ones.

Priced reasonably on eBay for ~ $18 AUD from this seller I will be sure to repurchase. Last time it took approximately a month for the product to reach me from Poland, so whilst the waiting time is tortuous, I think that it's worth it. I find skincare iffy to review because different products will work on different people, so keep this in mind. However, if you also have oily skin/overactive sebum production and have the same problems as I did, I would recommend for you to give it a go. Amodelrecommends (Ruth) also has a great, comprehensive post about Effaclar Duo here which is a must-read if you're interested in this product. I think this one will be in my daily skincare routine for a long time to come!

A Beauty and Skincare Haul

You may have noticed that I hardly post hauls here on Grace and Glitter. It's rare that I accumulate or purchase enough in a short period to warrant making a post about it. However, with Santa sneaking in a few treats last Christmas, and online shopping becoming one of my favourite procrastination techniques amidst my last set of exams, I have some new stuff for show and tell. :P

My lovely boyfriend gifted me with a few cosmetics as apart of my present over Christmas. We are low-key folk so most presents are pre-requested and come as no surprise to us... I don't mind this arrangement. ;) I was given Koji Eyelash Curler (number 73) and K-Palette One Day Tattoo Real Lasting 24 Hour Eyeliner Micro from him, with purchases made on Sasa.com. I also bought Kiss Me Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara myself from Adambeauty.com so I can throw out all of the embarrassingly old ones currently sitting in my drawer. I accidentally asked my boyfriend to purchase the micro version of the popular K-Palette eyeliner so the tip is super-fine; that aside, the eyeliner is pigmented, long-lasting and smudge proof - love! The Kiss Me Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara is easily the best mascara I've ever tried; it manages to hold a curl all day long and elongate my lashes like no other. I think I will have to write a full-length review on this one! This was my first foray into Asian cosmetics and I don't think it will be my last, I am genuinely impressed with all three products!

La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo is something I've had my eye on ever since Tanya Burr mentioned it in one of her videos. Procured through eBay, it is recommended for oily/problematic skin and is meant to unclog pores and correct skin imperfections. I think I might have to write a separate post on this as well; it has noticeably improved my skin's texture and appearance after daily use. Definitely one of my favourite purchases in this haul.

With Chemist Warehouse having a 50% off sale recently, I couldn't help but pick up Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Soft Beige and Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart. I haven't tried the Rimmel powder yet as I am trying to finish off my Maybelline one first but I am glad I have something different to turn to soon. Sweet Tart is the perfect pink - and I think my lip butter collection is complete. :P

Having accumulated so many new products in recent times (nothing regretful, thankfully), I am on a resolve to stop purchasing any more. This is going to be hard because I'm heading to Malaysia in a couple of weeks... Eep! Bans don't count when you're on holiday. ;)
